Get Your Glow On.
The lights may shine for 31 nights, but the work behind them happens all year long.
The Airdrie Festival of Lights is created, organized and operated by an independent, volunteer-run nonprofit Society. While we work closely with the City of Airdrie and many community partners, the Festival itself is not a City-run event.
Behind the displays, miniature trains, Santa visits and thousands of visitors each December is a dedicated group of volunteer directors who help bring it all together.
Our Board is a working board. That means our directors do more than attend meetings and make decisions. They help plan the Festival, prepare the park, coordinate volunteers, maintain displays, support community partnerships and take on the countless details that make 31 nights of Christmas lights possible.
Our directors meet monthly, typically on the third Wednesday at Nose Creek Valley Museum, to plan, make decisions and keep preparations moving forward. During the Festival season, directors are generally asked to contribute one or two evenings each week, helping with volunteer supervision, nightly operations and the unexpected challenges that come with welcoming thousands of visitors throughout December.
We aim to share responsibilities across the Board, drawing on the different interests, skills and experience each director brings. Whether contributing through volunteer coordination, Festival operations, planning, administration, maintenance or community partnerships, every director is expected to make a meaningful contribution.
It’s a year-round commitment, and one we’re proud to share. We encourage those interested in becoming a director to first volunteer with us during the Festival season. It’s an opportunity to experience the work behind the GLOW, get to know our team and discover whether serving on our Board might be the right fit. If you’d like to learn more, we’d welcome a conversation.
