The Lights Will Glow On!
After several months of uncertainty surrounding our longstanding Festival tent, the Airdrie Festival of Lights Society has some very good news to share.
An independent professional engineering review has confirmed that our existing tent was designed to standards exceeding current structural Code requirements and remains in excellent condition and serviceable for years to come.
For AFOLS, that means a longstanding Festival asset can remain in service without requiring taxpayers to fund a replacement that is no longer necessary. Because a replacement is no longer required, the Society will not proceed with the proposed purchase or require the allocation of up to $200,000 approved by Airdrie City Council earlier this month.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped us work through this process, including Mayor and Council, City Administration, our professional engineering team, our volunteers, and the many members of the community who offered their support.
Most importantly, we can now turn our attention back to what this has always been about: welcoming our community to Nose Creek Park this December.
The lights will be on, the tent will be bustling, and visitors will once again be invited to Share the Glow!
